Exhibitions of Studio of Her Own

Open call for exhibition proposals

Studio of Her Own was founded in 2010 as a platform for the promotion of young religious women artists in Jerusalem. Over the years, the Studio has been working to bring different and multilayered population sectors in Jerusalem closer to each other in the haredi ultraorthodox and Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem, serving as a bridge to create a dialogue and connection through art in the public space and through projects that create agency for social change among the participants. Our city of Jerusalem, multicultural crossroads of so many different ethnic and religious communities, constitutes our wonderful platform for art activities.

Over the years, we have witnessed the many difficulties facing women artists in developing a professional career simultaneously with becoming mothers and trying to make a living, difficulties facing women artists everywhere. We realized that there must be a place in which women could feel they have a “room of her own.” We therefore established the Women’s Art Center in Beit Hatzayar –  the Litvinovsky Painter’s House in Jerusalem.

Beit Litvinovsky is located in an area with wide-branching cultural activities – Hansen House, the Jerusalem Theatre, the Jerusalem Nature Museum, and the Museum for Islamic Art. The new Studio of Her Own Women’s Art Center is a space for residency and making art, stimulating inspiration for creative women, with a gallery for exhibitions, an art studio, research library, and more.

Open call to women artists to submit proposals for one-person exhibitions referring to the space: an exhibition which uses the space, studies it, criticizes it and works in it – the physical space of the gallery and the space itself, with its history and connection between its various elements.

The project will be supported by a budget for materials and an artist’s fee.

The application must be submitted in one PDF file to include the following:

  • A concise, clear description of the project of up to one page, including artist name and contact details
  • Detailed budget
  • Portfolio of up to 10 relevant works/link to video site or YouTube
  • CV
  • Send to studioofherown@gmail.com
